BUREL FABRIC
B U R E L F A C T O R Y F A B R I C
The BUREL FACTORY brand- with its textile products invite the world of interior design for a journey into Portugal’s past. Burel fabric has a long tradition amongst villages in the Portuguese mountains. It is a 100% wool woven felt, and it is made from sourced locally Bordaleira sheep wool. That breed lives only in Serra da Estrela region and is capable of growing extremely resistant but still pleasant to the touch fibres. Therefore, the BUREL FACTORY fabric is tight and incredibly resilient, yet cosy and pliable which makes it a perfect choice to use in upholstery, wall coverings, soft furnishings, rugs, etc. in private, commercial and public spaces, and complies with all the Australian and New Zealand regulations and standards.
Once an essential in the harsh climate of the highland, now it is available in a revamped version. The reliability and centuries-old know-how are still there, but the burel makers offer a product that matches with contemporary urban lifestyle. BUREL FACTORY fabric combines all the natural characteristics of wool such as water repellency, fire retardancy, antistatic properties with extreme durability, flexibility and acoustic and insulating properties produced in sophisticated processes of transforming soft Bordaleira sheep fleece into this firm fabric with a vast palette of colour choices.
The surface of BUREL FACTORY Fabric is dense and uniform, perfectly matte and light-absorbing which makes it perfect for both natural and artificial light environments. BUREL FACTORY fabric is highly pigmented which together with woven-felted surface makes the colours pop.
together with woven-felted surface makes the colours pop. Burel fabric is available in three colour styles: Natural Colours - undyed wool, from white to dark brown shades; Solid Colours - highly pigmented, bright colours; Melanges - mix of fibres in solid colours that results in a unique outcome: when looked at from a distance appears a smooth, uniform colour, but from a closer perspective it is an elusive surface of different shades; Patterns - engaging and dynamic, add character, perfect choice for statement pieces. Customised colours are available for orders over 30 metres.
Sourced locally wool, sustainable business model that contributes to the development of local community, love and respect for the traditional craft result in an outcome with lots of personality and almost infinite capacity for adjustment to any project.
Recent commissions using BUREL FACTORY fabrics include Microsoft Headquarters Office in Lisbon; Google Headquarters Office in Madrid; Hotel SPA Pedras Salgadas - Portugal; Uralchem Headquarters Office in Moscow; Dentist Clinic in Porto and Hotel SPA - Casa das Penhas by Burel Mountains Originals.
